[4,5] This is a warning of the Hereafter.
“فِي الْحُطَمَةِ” — meaning "the Crusher" — is either a name of Hell itself or the name of one of its levels.
Just as the hammāz and lammāz (slanderers and backbiters) broke the honor of the righteous, so Ḥuṭamah will crush this person’s bones into fragments.
[6,7] This is the explanation of Ḥuṭamah.
“الْمُوقَدَةُ” — the fire that Allah the Exalted has ignited, and no one has the power to extinguish it.
In the hadith of Tirmidhi, it is mentioned that the fire of Hell was kindled for a thousand years until it turned red, then for another thousand years until it turned white, and then for another thousand years until it became pitch black — and it will remain like that forever.
“الَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ” — meaning it burns the entire body until it reaches the heart.
The heart is specifically mentioned because it is the place of corrupt belief and the love of wealth.
[8,9] This emphasizes the intensity of the coming punishment.
“فِي عَمَدٍ” — refers to hollow columns, like the pipes of a furnace fire, and they are long.
They are closed off from all sides, trapping the person within them.
