عَمَِّ 1527 اَلْفَجْرَ
َ وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّى لَهُ الذِّكْرَى ﴿۲۳﴾ يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي ﴿۲۴﴾ فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿۲۵﴾ وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿۲۶﴾ يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ﴿۲۷﴾ ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً ﴿۲۸﴾ فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي ﴿۲۹﴾ وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي ﴿۳۰﴾
﴾23﴿ Wa jeee'a yawma'izim bi jahannnam; Yawma 'iziny yatazakkarul insaanu wa annaa lahuz zikraa
﴾24﴿ Yaqoolu yaa laitanee qaddamtu lihayaatee
﴾25﴿ Fa Yawma izil laa yu'azzibu 'azaabahooo ahad
﴾26﴿ Wa laa yoosiqu wasaaqa hooo ahad
﴾27﴿ Yaaa ayyatuhan nafsul mutma 'innah
﴾28﴿ Irji'eee ilaa Rabbiki raadiyatam mardiyyah
﴾29﴿ Fadkhulee fee 'ibaadee
﴾30﴿ Wadkhulee jannatee
﴾23﴿ And on that day, Hell will be brought forth; on that day, man will remember, but how will the advice benefit him then
﴾24﴿ He will say, Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good deeds] for my life
﴾25﴿ So on that day, no one will punish as He will punish
﴾26﴿ And no one will bind as He will bind
﴾27﴿ O reassured soul
﴾28﴿ Content and well-pleasing
﴾29﴿ Then enter among My servants
﴾30﴿ And enter My Paradise
[23] This too describes the conditions of the Day of Judgment as a reminder.
And Hell will be brought forth on that Day—according to a hadith in Sahih Muslim, it will be brought forth with seventy thousand reins, and each rein will be pulled by seventy thousand angels.
[24] And this is an addition to the previous descriptions—meaning, the benefit is now out of reach, and regret and remorse will overwhelm them.
I sent forth—the object is omitted, meaning “a righteous deed.”
For my life—this may refer to worldly life, in which case the preposition li means “in”; or it may refer to the life of the Hereafter, which is the true life and signifies salvation. In that case, li retains its original meaning, or it implies an omitted addition, such as “for the attainment of my life.”
[25,26] In this is a mention of the awe and severity of the punishment.
His punishment and His restraint—meaning Allah does not entrust the punishment and binding of the people of Hell to others; rather, He Himself, through the angels of Hell (Zabāniyah), administers it.
[27,28,29,30] This describes the state of the believers after the mention of the people of Hell.
O tranquil soul—this is said at the time of death and at the time of resurrection after death.
The tranquil one—there are many interpretations by the commentators, but they all refer to the same meaning: those who have complete faith, protect themselves from all forms of shirk, find comfort through the remembrance of Allah, have certainty in Allah’s commands, and are content with Allah’s decree—all of these qualities are present in them.
Well-pleased and pleasing—well-pleased refers to the abundance of blessings, and pleasing refers to their accepted deeds, meaning they are accepted by Allah due to their actions.
So enter among My servants—according to the first interpretation, this means the soul will enter the station of believing souls in the realm of Barzakh. According to the second, it means the soul will be joined to the bodies of the righteous servants, or after resurrection, it will be admitted among the group of righteous servants.
And enter My Paradise—Ash-Sharbini narrates from al-Qaffal that although these phrases are in the form of commands, their meaning is informational (i.e., they are statements of fact).
