َقَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ 1308 الرَّحمٰن

َ خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ ﴿۳﴾ عَلَّمَهُ الْبَيَانَ ﴿۴﴾ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍ ﴿۵﴾ وَالنَّجْمُ وَالشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ ﴿۶﴾ وَالسَّمَاءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الْمِيزَانَ ﴿۷﴾ أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا فِي الْمِيزَانِ ﴿۸﴾ وَأَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْمِيزَانَ ﴿۹﴾ وَالْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ ﴿۱۰﴾ فِيهَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَالنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ الْأَكْمَامِ ﴿۱۱﴾

﴾3﴿ Khalaqal insaan
﴾4﴿ Allamahul bayaan
﴾5﴿ Ashshamsu walqamaru bihusbaan
﴾6﴿ Wannajmu washshajaru yasjudan
﴾7﴿ Wassamaaa'a rafa'ahaa wa wada'al Meezan
﴾8﴿ Allaa tatghaw fil meezaan
﴾9﴿ Wa aqeemul wazna bilqisti wa laa tukhsirul meezaan
﴾10﴿ Wal arda wada'ahaa lilanaam
﴾11﴿ Feehaa faakihatunw wan nakhlu zaatul akmaam

﴾3﴿ He created man
﴾4﴿ He taught him the way to express his purpose clearly
﴾5﴿ The sun and the moon follow a precise course for reckoning
﴾6﴿ And the shrubs and the trees prostrate (to Allah)
﴾7﴿ And He raised the sky and set the balance
﴾8﴿ He has said: Do not exceed the limits in weighing
﴾9﴿ And establish weighing with justice and do not reduce in measurement
﴾10﴿ And Allah the Exalted has laid out the earth for mankind
﴾11﴿ And in it are fruits and date palms with sheathed clusters

[3,4] In these two blessings, mention is made of: "He taught him speech" (عَلَّمَهُ الْبَيَانَ) — the meaning of bayān is the placing of the power of speech in the tongue, lips, and throat of the human being in such a way that he can clearly express his intention, recite the Qur’an, and convey meaning.
Among all human traits and abilities, this one is specifically mentioned because the distinguishing feature of humans from other animals is the power of speech.
[5] In these two [verses], outward blessings are mentioned — the previous inner blessings were the cause of inner light, and these outward blessings are the cause of outward light.
[6] These are also two blessings: "An-Najm" refers to plants that do not stand upright with a stem, while "Ash-Shajar" refers to those plants that do stand upright with a trunk and stem.
These are both earthly blessings, mentioned after the heavenly ones.
"They both prostrate" (يَسْجُدَانِ) — the prostration of every creation is in accordance with its nature, and it signifies submission and obedience to the commands of Allah, the Most High.
[7] These verses mention two more blessings.
"Al-Mīzān" (الْمِيزَانَ) — its most well-known meaning is the physical scale or balance.
However, commentators have also interpreted it to mean justice, Shari'ah, and the Qur'an.
It may also refer to the scale of the Hereafter.
[8,9] Here, three etiquettes concerning the Mīzān (balance/scale) are mentioned:
First: "That you not transgress in the balance" (أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا فِي الْمِيزَانَ)
If the meaning of Mīzān is the Qur'an and Shari'ah, then transgression means distorting or rejecting them in a way that leads to denial and disbelief (like stubborn rejection or materialism).
If it refers to justice, then transgression means giving oneself more and deceiving others.
Second: "And establish weight in justice" (وَأَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ)
Based on the first meaning, it means to uphold the evidences of the Qur'an, establish belief in Tawhid, and align actions and beliefs with the Qur'an and Shari'ah.
Based on the second meaning, it refers to giving people and Allah their due rights — establishing justice.
Based on the third (literal scale), it means to physically uphold balance, using the scale correctly and with fairness in heart.
Third: "And do not make deficient the balance" (وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْمِيزَانَ)
Based on the first, it means reducing the value of Qur’anic proofs, leading to shirk or sin — a deficiency in the rights of Allah. And by injustice, a deficiency in the rights of people.
Based on the second, it means injustice by lacking fairness in judgment.
Based on the third, it refers to cheating in weight — shortchanging others.
[10,11] In this verse, three blessings are mentioned:
"For mankind" (لِلْأَنَامِ) — this includes both humans and jinn, and it can also refer generally to all living beings.
"And the palm trees" (وَالنَّخْلُ) — this is mentioned separately from fruits (فَاكِهَة) for two reasons:
1. Because in the date palm there is both fruit and sustenance (food).
2. Because the date palm provides more benefits than all other trees and fruits.
"Al-Akmām" (الْأَكْمَامِ) — these are the pod-like coverings shaped like sleeves, in which the date clusters are initially hidden. Then they split open, revealing the date bunches.
