َقَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ 1300 القمر
َ وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُسْتَقِرٌّ ﴿۳﴾ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنَ الْأَنْبَاءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ ﴿۴﴾ حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُ ﴿۵﴾ فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ إِلَى شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍ ﴿۶﴾ خُشَّعًا أَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌ ﴿۷﴾ مُهْطِعِينَ إِلَى الدَّاعِ يَقُولُ الْكَافِرُونَ هَذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ ﴿۸﴾ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ ﴿۹﴾ فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ ﴿۱۰﴾
﴾3﴿ Wa kazzaboo wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum; wa kullu amrin mustaqirr
﴾4﴿ Wa laqad jaaa'ahum minal anbaaa'i maa feehi muzdajar
﴾5﴿ Hikmatun baalighatun famaa tughnin nuzur
﴾6﴿ Fatawalla 'anhum; yawma yad'ud daa'i ilaa shai 'in nukur
﴾7﴿ Khushsha'an absaaruhum yakhrujoona minal ajdaasi ka annahum jaraadum muntashir
﴾8﴿ Muhti'eena ilad daa'i yaqoolul kaafiroona haazaa yawmun 'asir
﴾9﴿ Kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohin fakazzaboo 'abdanaa wa qaaloo majnoonunw wazdujir
﴾10﴿ Fada'aa Rabbahooo annee maghloobun fantasir
﴾3﴿ And they consider the truth a lie and follow their desires, while every matter occurs at its appointed time
﴾4﴿ And indeed, there has come to them from the news that which contains complete admonition
﴾5﴿ Mature and conclusive words have reached them, so what benefit can warners provide
﴾6﴿ So turn away from them on the day when the caller will call to a dreadful thing
﴾7﴿ Their eyes will be humbled as they emerge from the graves, as if they were scattered locusts
﴾8﴿ They will hasten toward the caller, and the disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult day
﴾9﴿ The people of Noah, peace be upon him, denied before them. So they considered Our servant a liar and said, "He is insane," and he was subjected to harm
﴾10﴿ So he called upon his Lord, saying, Indeed, I am weak, so take revenge on them for me
[3] Here too, two states of the deniers are mentioned as a form of rebuke.
(مُسْتَقِرٌّ) – It means that the Day of Judgment will occur at its appointed time, and the people of Paradise will be settled in Paradise, and the people of Hell will be settled in Hell.
Or it may mean that everything will reach its promised and decreed destination.
[4] This too is a rebuke—that prophets had come to them before with miracles, yet they denied them.
And it is also an encouragement to accept the Qur’an.
[5] What is meant here is the Qur’an.
(بَالِغَةٌ) – It means that it has reached perfection in admonitions, proofs, subtleties, rulings, eloquence, and clarity.
And in this sentence, there is a rebuke, and it describes their fifth state.
[6,7,8] After mentioning the evils of the deniers, here Allah comforts the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), and what is meant is their disregard and turning away.
(يَوْمَ يَدْعُ) – From here, a warning about the Hereafter is given, describing five states.
The one referred to as (الدَّاعِ) is Israfil (peace be upon him), and the call refers to the blowing of the trumpet for resurrection after death.
(شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍ) – This phrase refers to the Resurrection, Reckoning, Scale (Mizan), and all stages of the Afterlife.
(جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌ) – The comparison to locusts refers to their large number and the way they swarm and spread out.
(مُنْتَشِرٌ) – This indicates they will not be in rows or formations but scattered.
(مُهْطِعِينَ) – This word holds many meanings: swiftly running, raising their necks, heading straight toward something, staring fixedly, and opening their ears to listen. All these meanings are closely related and describe their fearful state.
[9] From this verse, five events are mentioned as worldly warnings—meaning the denial of the Resurrection leads to punishment. So, this relates back to verse (3).
(كَذَّبَتْ) – This is the first event: the people of Nuh (peace be upon him) denied the truth.
(وَازْدُجِرَ) – This is the statement of Allah the Exalted, meaning they tried to prevent him from calling (to the truth).
Or it could be the words of the deniers, meaning he has lost his mind or is possessed by jinn.
[10] This supplication is general, while the detailed version of his supplication is mentioned in Surah Nuh.
(مَغْلُوبٌ) – "Overpowered"—Question: Is this in contradiction with Surah Mujadila (21) and Surah Saffat (173)?
Answer 1: Those verses refer to the period after Allah's help, while in this verse, the defeat mentioned is before divine help arrives.
Answer 2: In those verses, victory refers to triumph in argument and evidence; in this verse, defeat refers to being overpowered physically or by force.
Answer 3 (by Ibn ‘Atiyyah): The meaning of “overpowered” here is that I am compelled and desperate in my plea to You (O Allah), helpless in seeking this supplication.
