إِلَيْهِ يُرَدَُّ 1213 الجاثية
مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ مَا كَسَبُوا شَيْئًا وَلَا مَا اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ﴿۱۰﴾ هَذَا هُدًى وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مِنْ رِجْزٍ أَلِيمٌ ﴿۱۱﴾ اللَّهُ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الْبَحْرَ لِتَجْرِيَ الْفُلْكُ فِيهِ بِأَمْرِهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِهِ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿۱۲﴾ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمْ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا مِنْهُ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ﴿۱۳﴾
﴾10﴿ Minw waraaa'ihim Jahannamu wa laa yughnee 'anhum maa kasaboo shai'anw wa laa mat takhazoo min doonil laahi awliyaaa; wa lahum 'azaabun 'azeem
﴾11﴿ Haazaa hudaa; wal lazeena kafaroo bi aayaati Rabbihim lahum 'azaabum mir rijzin 'aleem
﴾12﴿ Allaahul lazee sahkhara lakumul bahra litajriyal fulku feehi bi amrihee wa litabtaghoo min fadlihee wa la'allakum tashkuroon
﴾13﴿ Wa sakhkhara lakum maa fis samaawaati wa maa fil ardi jamee'am minhu; inna feezaalika la Aayaatil liqawminy yatafakkaroon
﴾10﴿ Ahead of them is Hell, and nothing will avert the torment from them for the deeds they have done. Nor will the deities they took as protectors besides Allah help them, and for them is a great punishment
﴾11﴿ This is guidance, and those who disbelieve in the signs of their Lord—for them is a painful punishment from a severe torment
﴾12﴿ Allah Almighty is the One who has subjected the sea for you so that ships may sail upon it by His command, and so that you may seek His bounty and so that you may be grateful
﴾13﴿ And He has subjected for you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth—all from Allah. Indeed, in this are many signs for a people who reflect
[10] (وَلَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ) – Since the opponents of the truth are of two types: first, the worldly materialists, who believe that acquiring wealth will save them from punishment; and second, those who revere elders, worship graves, or idols, believing that their saints or elders will save them – this phrase rebuts the belief of the first group.
And in the second phrase (وَلَا مَا اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ), the belief of the second group is refuted.
Benefit: In these verses, six wicked traits and six types of punishment are mentioned.
In the first description of punishment, the word "painful" (أَلِيمٌ) is used, because this person, due to his stubbornness and arrogance when hearing the Qur'an, caused great pain to the heart of the one delivering the message.
The second description is "disgraceful" (مُهِينٌ), because through mockery, he insulted the Qur'an and the people of the Qur'an—therefore, his punishment is disgrace.
The third description is "great" (عَظِيمٌ), indicating that this punishment will completely surround them—from every cause, at all times, and upon every part of their body.
[11] In this, there is encouragement toward the Qur'an and a warning to its deniers.
(مِنْ رِجْزٍ) – This originally refers to a foul punishment that causes revulsion, such as in this world: plague and cholera, and in the Hereafter: pus-like fluid (māʾ ṣadīd) and bitter discharge (ghislīn).
[12,13] In these verses, once again, rational proofs are presented.
The previous proofs were purely through signs (verses), while these proofs are through blessings.
For this reason, the word "Sakhkhara" (سَخَّرَ) – meaning "He subjected" – is used here.
The meaning of subjugating the sea is that Allah created it with such qualities that you can sail ships on it – such as its softness and level surface, the winds that blow within it, waves being moderate, and the sea not pulling in ships and vessels, among other conditions.
All of these are through the power of Allah the Exalted – no creature has any share or role in them.
